Happy New Year.
Last year was a very difficult year due to the unimaginable Covid-19 disaster. I think everyone had a lot of trouble.
It seems that light will be seen toward normalization this year, including the spread of vaccines, but it will take more time to regain the previous daily life.
I always think that the dojo is behind the scenes of life. Practice at the dojo is meaningless unless it can be used on the front stage of life and the real world.
It doesn’t mean street fighting. Overcoming the various difficulties and problems we face in life and in the real world is the purpose of our practice in Budo.
There is the idea of a substitution method. Think of the difficulties and problems you face by replacing them with techniques that you practice in the dojo. Now, what kind of attack is Covid-19? What kind of technique do you use to deal with it? How about your mind at that time, breathing, and distance (ma-ai)?
And never forget that your biggest enemy is yourself. That biggest enemy is behind the difficulties and problems. It is no exaggeration to say that the ultimate goal of our practice is to beat ourselves. That is “A-gatsu”.
With that in mind, Covid-19 disaster that we are facing now should be (although it may sound a bit unscrupulous) a great practice opportunity. In other words, what is the Budo for if you can’t deal with this difficulty or problem now?
I am really looking forward to seeing you all who have grown up after overcoming the Covid-19.

I sincerely hope that you and your family will be healthy and have a good year.
It is also the New Year with the Covid-19 disaster that involves the world. We pray that your dojo will be open as usual and that you can practice as usual. Think of being healthy as your greatest goal of practice.
This year, in the oriental zodiac, “Yin Metal Ox”. In the case of plants, ” Yin Metal ” means that plants have died and are about to reborn. “Ox” represents the status in which the seeds are about to sprout. Covid-19 has begun to significantly change the values and lifestyles of people in Japan and around the world. This year will be a year of new buds from the old ones.
We will give you guidance at online seminars this year as well. (Starts from 21:00 Japan time on the second Sunday of every month. Please apply from the headquarters website.)
“Do not be infected / do not infect” is the biggest learning item this year.
I strongly hope that you are in good health and that your plan will be carried out without any problems.

We look forward to working with you this year as well.
Unfortunately, the dojo has been officially closed since February last year due to the coronavirus. However, I sometimes secretly practice and shoot videos of them. I think that it will be possible to solve it if vaccination becomes possible to the general public, but it seems that it will take time.
If the coronavirus disappears, I think the Daito-ryu will be in the spotlight again, so I will do my best not only for Alex and Luka but also for new disciples.

8月より本部長を承継させていただき、大変力不足ではありますが近藤勝之総務長同様よろしくお願いいたします。世界中を巻き込んだ未曽有の新型コロナウィルスの影響で2020年は始まり終わりを迎えています。まずもって、罹患された門下生の皆様・ご家族の皆様にお見舞い申し上げます。そして門下生の多くの皆様が道場閉鎖や制限された状況下で稽古をされたことを、本部長として大変誇りに思います。簡単ながら年度報告をさせていただきます。

経験したことのないコロナ禍での2021年になりそうです。一日も早く平常に戻り通常のセミナー・合宿を行いたいところですが予想がつきません。オンラインでのセミナーは毎週第2日曜日開催で行い、随時オンライン支部長会議等も開催する予定です。門下生間のコミュニケーションを強化しながら、この難関を乗り越えたいと思います。
それぞれがコロナに打ち勝ち元気に2021年を迎えましょう。一年間ありがとうございました。

To all Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu Branch/Study group Chiefs
In August, I took over Hombucho (Headquarters Director). I would like to ask for your continued support in the same way as for Kondo Katsuyuki Somucho (General Affairs Director).
2020 is about to end under the influence of the unprecedented COVID-19 disaster that has involved the entire world. I would like to express my deepest sympathies to all the affected students and their families. And I am proud as Hombucho that many of the students made best efforts to continue practicing even under the circumstances of going out restrictions and dojo closure in each country.
I will give you a brief annual report.

・ If requested, we will hold headquarters seminars or demonstrations in conjunction with each branch anniversary event. Your proposal would be appreciated.
・ The Tokyo Olympic games are scheduled to be held next summer, and after the Olympics, the Katsuura camp and the Demonstration of Headquarters are scheduled.
・ If requested, we will hold special practice of the headquarters. Please contact and ask us directly.
・ I would like each branch to participate in the demonstration of the Japan Traditional Martial Arts Association and Japan Traditional Martial Arts Promotion Society, and overseas seminars. If you or your students would like to participate, please consult with Hombucho.
It seems that the COVID-19 disaster will continue in 2021. I would like to return to normal as soon as possible and hold regular seminars and camps, but I cannot predict at this present. Online seminars will be held on the second Sunday of every month, and online branch/study group chiefs’ meetings will be held at any time. I would like to overcome this difficulty while strengthening communication between students.
Let’s defeat Corona and spend 2021 well.

新型コロナ・ウィルス感染症（COVID-19）の影響により、例年のようなセミナー、合宿等の実施が難しい状況下、大東流合気柔術本部では、9月から以下の要領にてオンライン・セミナーを開始します。
◯ 日時： 基本的に毎週日曜日21：00～22：00（日本時間）
◯ 内容： ZOOMによる本部長の指導
◯ 対象： ①大東流合気柔術の黒帯（初段以上）門下生、
または ②同白帯（初段未満）門下生のうち支部長が認めた者
詳細は、各支部長／スタディ・グループ長に連絡いたします。

(English) The headquarters plans to start the following Online Seminars from September to respond to the current difficulty of regular training, overseas seminars and the Katsuura camp under the influence of COVID-19.
◯ Date and time: Basically every Sunday from 21:00 to 22:00 (Japan time)
◯ Contents: Instruction by Hombucho through ZOOM
◯ Eligible participants: ① Daito-ryu black belt students,
and/or ② white belt students who are permitted by the branch/study group chief

本日2020年8月1日付を持ちまして大東流合気柔術の本部長を拝命しました近藤昌之です。
武田惣角、武田時宗そして近藤勝之と継承されてきた大東流の正統を、近藤勝之総務長のご指導を頂きながら、保存・普及・発展に努めてまいります。総務長同様よろしくお願いいたします。また新しい体制として長谷川すみ枝本部長補佐、臼山秀遠副本部長ともどもよろしくお願いいたします。
新型コロナウィルスと世界中が戦っている現在、門下生の皆さんにおいては感染予防をしながらの稽古方法に苦慮されていると思います。そんな状況下でも大東流ファミリーとして共に技術向上できるよう次の取り組みを考えてまいります。
１．オンライン稽古の実施
後日日程等を通知します。多くの皆さんの参加を望みます。
２．大東流本部として各種ＳＮＳの立ち上げ
皆さんと情報共有する窓口を多くします。多くの大東流愛好家に拡散してください。
３．大東流合気柔術技法の整理・指導
大東流の技は1万を超えるといわれています。これらを整理し指導していきます。
４．大東流便りの発信
定期的に本部・支部・スタディグループ情報を発信します。
５．定期的支部長・スタディグループ長ミーティングの実施
６．門下生ネットワークの構築
大東流のプラットフォーム化を進め、技量習得や情報交換をしやすい環境作りを進めます。
７．コロナ鎮静後においては、国内はもとより海外セミナーも積極的に行っていきます。

I, Kondo Masayuki, was appointed the Headquarters Director (Hombucho) of Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu as of August 1, 2020.
With the guidance of Kondo Katsuyuki General Affairs Director (Somucho), I will do my best to preserve, spread and develop the mainstream of Daito-ryu that has been inherited by Takeda Sokaku, Takeda Tokimune and Kondo Katsuyuki. Your support same as what is given to Somucho would be appreciated. Also, I would like to ask you to cooperate with the new Headquarters including Hasegawa Sumie Assistant to Headquarters Director (Hombucho-hosa) and Usuyama Hideto Vice Headquarters Director (Fuku-hombucho).
Now, the whole world is fighting against the new coronavirus, And I think that all the students are struggling how to continue training while preventing infection. Even under such circumstances, we will be considering the following efforts as a Daito-ryu family so that we can improve our skills.
1.Online practice
We will inform you of the schedule at a later date. I hope many of you will participate.
2.Launch various SNS as Daito-ryu Headquarters
We will increase the channels to share information with everyone. Please spread to many Daito-ryu enthusiasts.
3.Organize and teach Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu techniques
It is said that the number of Daito-ryu techniques exceeds 10,000. I will organize and teach these.
4.Send Daito-ryu news
Regularly sending the information of headquarters, branches, and study groups.
5.Hold regular branch /study group chiefs’ meetings
6.Build the students network
We will improve the platform of information and the environment where it is easy to learn skills and exchange information.
7.Actively hold seminars in Japan and overseas in after-corona situation.
